An iconic “Rodeio” sofa designed by Jean Gillon and manufactured by Italma Wood Art in Brazil in 1965, representing the expressive character of Brazilian Mid-Century Modern design. The sofa is built around a sculptural hardwood frame with broad, low proportions, curved armrests and distinctive angled supports. Loose cushions upholstered in warm cognac leather are suspended within the exposed structure by saddle leather straps, a construction inspired by equestrian forms that gives the Rodeio its unmistakable identity. The reddish-brown grain of the timber contrasts beautifully with the supple leather, balancing architectural strength with visual lightness. Designed to be appreciated from every angle, it is particularly striking as a freestanding centrepiece. The upholstery has been renewed while preserving the character of the design. Presented in very good condition.
