A rare PJ-R-27-A six-hole file rack designed by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigarh, India, circa 1958. Constructed from solid teak, the low storage unit is organised into six open compartments through a precise arrangement of horizontal and vertical partitions, creating the architectural grid characteristic of Jeanneret’s Chandigarh furniture. Designed for access from both sides, it could stand freely within libraries, offices and administrative interiors, functioning simultaneously as storage and a subtle room divider. The side panels extend downwards to form the legs, emphasizing the direct, functional construction and absence of unnecessary ornament. The teak has developed a rich aged surface and warm patina, reinforcing the piece’s strong material presence. An important example of Indian Modernist design and Jeanneret’s celebrated Chandigarh furniture programme.
