A remarkably elegant and historically charged silver-plated fruit stand / centerpiece designed by Gio Ponti for Arthur Krupp Milano in the 1930s, originally commissioned for the famed Hotel Royal in Riccione. Pieces from this commission are exceptionally rare, and this example distills Ponti’s early decorative sensibility with a poetic balance of modern rigor and delicate Italian Liberty curves.
The form is both architectural and fluid: a flared conical base supports a wide, shallow bowl with a beautifully aged surface, while the handle rises in three slender parallel arcs that reunite at the top with two small sculptural spheres — a subtle decorative gesture emblematic of Ponti’s early vocabulary. Every angle reveals a new detail: the elegant bends of the handle, the refined welds, the gentle hammering and textural variations, all softened by the extraordinary patina acquired over nearly a century.
