This rare 1930s modernist desk exemplifies timeless industrial elegance with its black lacquered metal structure, nickel-plated handles, and a thick Saint-Gobain glass top. Designed in the style of Bruno Weil for Thonet, it perfectly captures the refined functionalism of early modernist design. The desk features a working lock on its drawers, showcasing both craftsmanship and practicality. Its provenance adds historical depth, it was once used by a Belgian otolaryngologist who, after World War II, examined returning prisoners of war; correspondence from that period was discovered within the desk. Aside from a small chip in the rear glass, it remains in beautiful vintage condition. A striking piece of design history that combines modernist form, utility, and a compelling human story.
