A very rare “Danube” sofa by Ettore Sottsass for Cassina, Italy, 1980s. Sottsass, founder of the Memphis Group and one of Italy’s most influential designers, created this model with his signature mix of postmodern playfulness and bold form. The sofa features a blackened metal frame with colored fabric inserts along the sides and back, framing a sheltered seating area with a subtle love-seat effect. Thick, high-quality leather cushions with zippered covers provide comfort and durability, complemented by integrated armrests. This example is upholstered in petrol grey leather with contrasting blue fabric inserts, a striking combination that enhances its sculptural presence. Built with Cassina’s renowned craftsmanship, the sofa remains in very good vintage condition, with minor wear on fabric and frame while the leather is excellent.
