Set of 6 Chairs No 124 by H&J Kurmanowicz from Poland in 1950
SAFE PAYMENTS
This set of six dining chairs, model 124, was designed by Helena and Jerzy Kurmanowicz and manufactured by Radomszczańskie Zakłady Przemysłu Drzewnego in the 1950s. The design won first prize in a competition organized by PAGED (Polish Wood Export Agency) in 1959, and is famously known as the "hearts" design due to the heart-shaped backrests crafted from bent plywood.
The craftsmanship of these chairs highlights advanced bending techniques, with each wooden component—including the ring supporting the seat—made from a single, continuous bent piece. The bent legs add to the cohesive and elegant aesthetic of the design. The seats and backrests are upholstered in a brown, orange, and grey mix of boucle fabric, further enhancing the vintage appeal.
While the chairs are part of a single set, slight variations in leg width or curvature of the bends, inherent to the manufacturing process, lend each piece a unique character. The "heart" design and exceptional craftsmanship make this set a true gem for collectors of mid-century Polish furniture, offering both functional seating and a beautiful statement piece for any dining space.
