A rare nod to 19th-century design heritage, this late 1970s Thonet bench revives Michael Thonet’s iconic chair no. 17 (later 207 R / 207 RF “Lange Jan” or “Long John”), originally created around 1865. Inspired by the architectural elegance of London’s Crystal Palace, where Thonet first exhibited in 1851, this bentwood bench combines timeless curves with enduring craftsmanship. In good vintage condition with normal age-related wear, it features a newly renewed rattan seat (2025). Provenance: acquired directly from a family befriended with the Thonet family. Dimensions: H 113 × W 112 × D 55 cm, seat height 46 cm.
