At Curiouz, we love celebrating the creativity and stories that shape our sellers. In this feature, we’re shining a light on AtKris Studio itself. Tracing the path from uncovering hidden design treasures to curating a collection that blends passion, bold aesthetics, and an appreciation for timeless pieces with character and soul.
What’s your usual breakfast (or favorite morning ritual)
Every morning the same. Greek Yoghurt, Honey, Fruit and Muesli. And a nice cup of cappuccino that my husband brings me every day in bed in the morning.
What’s a song or band you’ve been listening to a lot lately?
This is a huge guilty pleasure - but I love the song ‘Wicked Games’ by Chris Isaac (I know…) and Spotify has entire playlists with only covers of Wicked Games and that is what I love to listen to.
If you could time-travel to any decade just to shop for vintage, which would it be?
For sure the 1920s-1930s - I would go for the Art Deco period. It is also the period that Rietveld was active in the Netherlands. The interbellum in general was a very interesting time period I think.
What’s the most unusual or funny place you’ve found a vintage piece?
Well - we call him the ‘Gucci Lover Guy’, but it is one of our contacts in Italy who always has something special to offer or has friends with other storage locations that you have to drive to.
What’s your favorite vintage piece of all time?
Eva chair by Bonacina is one of my favorites.
How did you first get into selling vintage?
My husband was always a big collector/gatherer - he visited so many auctions and our house was very full. After 15 years at Shell I took a sabbatical and jokingly said "I am going to build a website and sell some of our pieces". And that quickly went out of hand.
What’s your favorite piece you’ve ever sold and why?
Giuseppe Rivadossi Trapezium Sideboard - it was so beautifully made and truly one of a kind - I don’t think we will ever find it again…
How do you decide which items make it into your shop?
It is truly a feeling, but the item also needs to fit the AtKris philosophy; "authentic, beauty and esthetics". It needs to have character; whether it is from a famous designer or an unknown designer. We have a WhatsApp group with myself and two other people that we share our finds in and usually we are very aligned.
What does “vintage” mean to you personally?
At least 25 years old, authentic and having character. It adds soul to a house and lets the interior move away from "could be anybody’s", to the true home of the owner.
If you weren’t selling vintage, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Haha - probably still working at Shell. Although, recently I would be thinking I would be a police detective
Since we’re Curiouz… What’s something you’ve always been curious to try, but haven’t (yet)?
This is a long list - I have a goal of trying something new every year, like wave surfing, snowshoe walking, etc. I would love to do an island hopping trip in Greece on a sailboat and I would love to cross the Alps on a hiking trip.
